Reconciliation

Nous acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and the traditional custodians of Australia. We pay our respects to the Elders past, present and future in maintaining the culture, Country and their spiritual connection to the land.

Nous’ vision for reconciliation is the evident, genuine and mutual understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our vision is for all Australians to have the same opportunities for prosperity, social and economic engagement, and a standard of living that is not compromised by their identity – a closing of the current gap between the experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians.

We believe reconciliation is fundamental for our society and our country’s future and our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) stands as a commitment to supporting and promoting this vision.

Nous’ reconciliation journey

Our first Reflect RAP focused on building relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including through project work, and fostering respect, by developing understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures among Nous staff. Our key priorities for reconciliation over the next two years of our Innovate RAP focus on relationships, respect and opportunities.

Our Reflect RAP showed us that a targeted employment strategy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples would be greatly beneficial to our organisation and would contribute to reconciliation more broadly. As a result, one of our key achievements from our Reflect RAP was the development of our Indigenous Employment Strategy to ensure we actively increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people working at Nous and contributing to the work we do.

We are looking forward to continuing to be a part of Australia’s reconciliation journey and encourage other organisations to do the same.
