Nous Group is joining with women across the world in celebrating International Women’s Day 2021, with events across our offices to mark the occasion in the spirit of the theme #ChooseToChallenge.

With offices in Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada, Nous continues to lead the way among professional services firms in supporting women to achieve their full potential in the workplace.

We are pleased to report that a majority of the Nous Executive Board are women, one of the highest levels of female leadership of any organisation. Eight members of the 14-member Board are women, including five Principals and three leaders of corporate functions.

Other data points demonstrate the outcomes of Nous’ commitment to gender equality:

  • 58 per cent of our employees are women
  • 60 per cent of employees promoted in 2020 are women
  • 48 per cent of our Principals, Directors and leaders of corporate functions are women
  • 42 per cent of our 2021 graduate intake are women.

Tim Orton, Managing Principal of Nous Group, said this gender balance reflected Nous’ approach to supporting all its people.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it is enriching to lead an executive group that has a female majority,” Tim said. “As we have grown, our leadership gender ratio has stayed close to even. We are actively committed to maintaining this through our inclusive culture, gender-neutral policies and flexible work practices.”

Kelly Samson, the leader of Nous’ Sydney office, said International Women’s Day offered us all a chance to reflect on our achievements and on areas for growth.

“For more than 20 years Nous has worked hard to create an environment in which all our people can achieve professional success,” Kelly said. “While many organisations talk about their commitment to gender equity, the evidence shows they often fall short. There is still more for each of us to do.”

To mark International Women’s Day 2021, Nous team members are participating in several activities:

  • Across Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada we will be showcasing stories of inspiring Nousers on our social media channels.
  • Our Sydney office will be conducting a facilitated workshop in which people can share stories of gender bias and work together to develop tangible actions to challenge the bias.
  • Our Perth office will conduct a Dress for Success clothes drive aimed at providing women in need with attire appropriate for wok and interviews to help them get back on their feet.
  • Our Melbourne office will conduct a trivia night, with the proceeds going to a women’s charity.
  • Our Brisbane office will stream a virtual panel discussion in which our office coordinator Rebecca Raper will be taking part.
  • Our Canberra office will be conducting an immersive session to expand understanding of gender equity issues.
  • Our London office will be hosting a facilitated breakfast in which our team will celebrate women’s achievements and discuss gender bias.
