Mark brings more than 35 years’ experience in public policy and has worked at the highest levels of government in four different countries.

He has worked in the public, private and academic sectors, and has led national level health transformation projects. He is expert in delivering practical solutions to complex issues, dealing with complex stakeholder environments, regulatory policy and practice and in leading organisational and cultural change.

Influential work

Helped the Australian health department on its Aged Care Data and Digital Strategy, consulting with more than 400 stakeholders over a year
Led the evaluation of the $550 million Stronger Rural Health Strategy, which focused on improving access to the Australian regional, rural and remote health workforce
While at the Department of Health, was responsible for rural health workforce issues, including policy on overseas-trained health practitioners
While at the department, led establishment of Medicare Locals and their transition to Public Health Networks
Over a decade, worked in the Australian Government on strategic health policy roles, in the New Zealand Ministry of Health on aged care issues, and in the USA on aged care funding issues as a Harkness Fellow in Health Policy

Outside of Nous

Prior to Nous Mark was CEO of Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), an independent statutory agency that supports public health aims and an industry employing over 2 million Australians and with more than $24 billion in exports. Prior to joining FSANZ Mark worked predominantly in the health sector shaping strategic policy. He has worked in the public, private and academic sectors in the UK, New Zealand, Australia and the United States. This included being a senior policy advisor to Health Ministers in New Zealand and being a Harkness Fellow at Brown University looking at aged care provision in Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
