Matthew is a strategic advisor with extensive experience growing brands internationally. Passionate about helping organisations to expand, he has launched brands in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Before joining Nous he advised companies exporting into Australia with a combined turnover of over $500 million. He has worked for a global fast-moving consumer goods company across three regions, transforming profit and losses by over $60 million. He has extensive experience collaborating on joint business plans across key retailers. Matthew recently completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Executive at the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales.

Influential work

  • Managed and grew key accounts for Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Ocado for Nestle UK (over $100 million of sales)
  • Conducted integrated commercial planning process across entire business unit for Nestle Australia with a turnover above $200 million
  • Led implementation of the go-to-market strategy for technology companies exporting into Malaysia
  • Advised more than 50 companies globally and provided thought leadership on category management and growth
  • Developed strategic insights and research for food and beverage in Australia that are now being implemented in Southeast Asia.

Outside of Nous

Before joining Nous, Matthew was a commercial business advisor in Sydney for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, New Zealand’s business development agency, with 40 offices globally. NZTE’s purpose is to support businesses to grow bigger, better and faster into international markets. Matthew advised and consulted over 50 companies on how to grow, helping businesses solve their toughest challenges in exporting around the world.

Prior to joining NZTE, Matthew worked for over 10 years at Nestle, the world’s largest fast-moving consumer goods company. At Nestle, Matthew held various sales, category and operations roles in Australia, the UK and New Zealand. In Australia he led a business team across category, marketing, supply and finance. This involved writing the strategy and delivering the two-to-three-year plan for the business unit.

In his spare time...

Matthew is a passionate sports fan, particularly at community level, and still plays a bit of cricket and touch rugby. He loves intrepid travel, the outdoors and getting off the beaten track.
