Award-winning Australian management consultancy Nous Group is pleased to announce it is building on its strength in public policy consulting with the appointment of Tim Marney, a Western Australian public official with over 2 decades experience in senior executive roles, as a principal.

Mr Marney starts with Nous in July, following his five years as a chief executive in a mental health role. Prior to that role he served as the head of the Western Australian Treasury, during which he oversaw the delivery of 10 surplus budgets and numerous public sector reform initiatives.

Tim Orton, the founder and managing director of Nous Group, said Mr Marney’s appointment would give Nous’ extensive network of clients across Australia access to his experience and expertise.

“Few people understand state governments better than Tim Marney, so we are honoured he has chosen to join us here at Nous Group,” Mr Orton said. “We pride ourselves on the innovative thinking we offer all our clients and we know Tim will be a fantastic addition to our organisation as we deliver projects that achieve positive influence and improved performance.”

Mr Marney said he was honoured to part of Nous’ growing team.

“Nous’ value proposition – bold and engaging for performance and influence – and its collaborative and community-minded approach is a strong values match for me. I am very excited to be joining Nous and applying my skills and experience in partnership with a range of organisations and leaders to create positive change.”

Mr Marney has served as Western Australia’s Mental Health Commissioner, Under Treasurer, Chair of the Western Australian Treasury Corporation, and Executive Director and Policy Adviser with the state Treasury, after starting his career in economic analysis and forecasting with the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Career highlights include serving as a direct advisor to four premiers and 11 ministers, developing successful whole-of-government financial strategy (including throughout the Global Financial Crisis), delivery of the $2.2 billion Fiona Stanley Hospital on time and within budget, government procurement reform (including establishing whole-of-government partnership with non-government organisations), leading a wholistic review of the Western Australian public sector, and establishing the Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug 10 Year Plan 2015-2025.

He currently chairs the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre advisory board and is Deputy Chair of Beyond Blue, where he has been a board member for 11 years.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from Murdoch University and is a Fellow of Certified Practising Accountants Australia.
