Ian is a director in Nous’ Perth office with 20 years of professional experience, the last ten of which were focused on health and government consulting. He has a track record of managing highly complex and political transformation programs in Australia and the UK, delivering sustainable performance improvements and training and coaching front-line managers and staff.

Influential work

  • Led the establishment of a state-wide health reform program, including a new delivery model for non-clinical functions, to enable a new state-wide governance model
  • Led a team that worked alongside a local alliance of healthcare organisations to successfully apply to the Commonwealth to operate all three of Western Australia’s (WA) Primary Health Networks
  • Evaluated a large Aboriginal education program that was delivered in 85% of secondary schools within its state, leading to changes to ensure its sustainability
  • Assessed a UK National Health Services (NHS) hospital group’s viability, and then was part of the management team to be the first private administrators of an NHS hospital
  • Served as the regional lead for a program to implement new intelligence capabilities across the 43 police forces of England and Wales.

Outside of Nous

In the seven years prior to joining Nous, Ian was a senior leader in the Public Sector Performance Improvement teams at PwC in Australia, and before this Ernst & Young in the UK. He advised government agencies, hospitals and police forces on strategic development, cost and performance improvements, program evaluations and functional reviews.

Since moving to Australia in 2014, Ian has led work that enabled the establishment of WA’s Primary Health Network and multiple projects with the Department of Health to implement reforms to the health system’s governance and management.

Ian holds a Master of Science in operational research and a Bachelor of Computer Science, and is a trained BTEC professional in ‘Training the Tainer’ and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.

In his spare time...

Ian enjoys exploring WA’s coastline and rivers: either in a kayak, swimming in the ocean or watching the sunset with a nice glass of local beer or wine.
