James is a consultant with experience in the public, not-for-profit and legal sectors. He is a detail-orientated problem solver and uses his developed project management skills to deliver practical solutions. For his work in the LGBTQI+ space, James was made an Associate Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society and in 2020 was named one of Australia’s 30 under 30 queer leaders. Clients value his open style of communication, varied experience and ability to lead people in a constructive way.

Influential work

  • Led a team that developed a commercialisation, marketing and evaluation strategy for a mental health not-for-profit organisation, which had a focus on preventative health
  • Evaluated the financial strategy of Victoria’s only children’s hospice, finding untapped funding streams and opportunities for revenue growth
  • Analysed OECD data and compared ABS statistics against international trends to predict future challenges regarding youth unemployment in Australia
  • Advised Indigenous stakeholders on potential corporate structures in an ongoing dispute regarding the disposal of nuclear waste
  • Collaborated with a state parliamentarian to propose recommendations on how residential care can be made to be more accessible to the Chinese community in Victoria.

Outside of Nous

Prior to joining Nous, James interned for the Grattan Institute, Victorian Parliament, a community legal centre, Australia’s largest social justice law firm and a United States Congressman. James has led teams for 180 Degrees Consulting and at one of Monash University’s residential colleges, during which he oversaw the welfare of all students at the college.

James has experience in community roles. He runs a biannual, weekend-long residential camp for teenagers from a refugee and migrant background, during which he manages 130-150 volunteers. Furthermore, he has spoken to hundreds of students from regional areas about LGBTQI+ inclusion.

James holds a Bachelor of Law (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University and is looking to be admitted as a solicitor in 2022.

In his spare time...

James is an avid lover of musicals, although – to his chagrin – he has a shocking singing voice. He referees basketball, endures the gym and thrives on the netball court.
