Jo’s career as a policy adviser has spanned economic, social and legal policy, as well as intergovernmental relations. She understands how government decisions are made and the processes and operations that underpin successful public administration. Jo’s professional experience builds on tertiary qualifications in business, law and public policy.

Influential work

  • Drafted advice to the prime minister on policy proposals from multiple Australian Government portfolios (Treasury, Attorney General’s, Education and Employment)
  • Contributed to the development of the Australian Government Budget, working with teams across government to settle advice on spending proposals
  • Negotiated funding agreements between the Australian Government and the states and territories and provided strategic advice on intergovernmental relations
  • Contributed to research by the UK Behavioural Insights Team on how parents make decisions about the allocation of caring responsibilities
  • Designed and delivered training to new graduates on how central agencies influence policy development and implementation.

Outside of Nous

Before joining Nous, Jo spent almost seven years as a policy adviser in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C). As well as performing policy advice and coordination roles, Jo has been involved several special projects and spent time liaising between PM&C and a minister’s office.

Jo holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Oxford; and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), a Bachelor of Commerce and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University. She was also admitted as a lawyer in the Australian Capital Territory.
