Luke has worked in public policy, academia, and as a consultant across several industries in Asia and Africa. He has collaborated with several international organisations, universities and government departments including the Liberian National Investment Commission; Peking University; and Australian Treasury. He holds a PhD in Economics and has published widely (in popular business publications and academic journals) on issues that impact Australia’s prosperity. He recently published a book on the impact of China’s rise on the global iron ore market with Routledge, New York.

Influential work

  • Worked with government to develop a strategy to identify, attract and retain foreign investment to post-secondary education projects
  • Conducted analysis for a major mining company to forecast the potential impact of African iron ore supply on the market over the medium and long term
  • Advised a remote community during price renegotiations with a major mining company
  • Managed the development of a net benefits analysis of a major university science, technology, engineering and maths initiative
  • Guided the development of Beyond 2020 business planning for a top business school.

Outside of Nous

Luke has held research fellowships at The University of Melbourne and The Australian National University. He has previously worked as the managing director of Glenloch Advisory’s economics practice; as the executive officer at the Pacific Trade and Development International Secretariat; and as a management consultant at Accenture.

Luke holds a PhD in Economics from The Australian National University and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Monash University.

In his spare time...

Luke enjoys running and kayaking. He doesn’t enjoy watching his beloved Australian Football League team The Kangaroos do poorly in the finals.
