Melissa is an experienced strategic, policy and reform leader, manager and practitioner who brings significant experience from the government and non-government sectors, having worked in international, national, state, regional and remote contexts. She has led and contributed to a range of policy and organisational reform initiatives across government and the not-for profit sector. Melissa is strongly committed to improved organisational, service and community outcomes and seeks to bring creative and collaborative approaches to her work, drawing on her 23 years of experience.

Influential work

  • Led regional human services reform initiatives in the Kimberley region of Western Australia; including governance reforms and a five-year strategic plan, priority action plans and outcomes framework developed collaboratively with Kimberley District Leadership Groups
  • As a member of the Kimberley Regional Executive, led the successful integration of former agencies, functions and governance arrangements for a new state government department in the Kimberley region, implementing machinery-of-government changes
  • Implemented a major Australian Government agency capability review addressing innovation and policy capability issues
  • Played a key leadership role in delivering a visa services transformation program to streamline the immigration visa system
  • Established Reconciliation Australia for the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation.

Outside of Nous

Prior to joining Nous, Melissa held director positions at various Australian Government and state government agencies, including central agencies in Canberra, Darwin, Perth and Broome. In these roles she led strategic policy and executive secretariat functions and managed significant policy areas and reforms across government. Melissa also worked as a departmental liaison officer and ministerial adviser in the prime minister’s, Indigenous affairs and reconciliation and foreign affairs portfolios, and as an executive director of a large Native Title Representative Body.

Melissa holds a Master of Arts (applied anthropology and development studies) from Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University.

In her spare time...

Melissa is based in our Broome office in Western Australia and enjoys exploring the beautiful Kimberley, swimming and reading in her spare time.
