Michael’s blend of critical thinking skills, commitment to quality and down-to-earth nature make him an ideal person to work with to tackle tricky challenges. His experience in Australian Government central agencies saw him progress government policy priorities toward implementation, conduct extensive stakeholder engagement and collaborate with the private sector and academia to co-design and trial consumer-centric policy interventions.

Influential work

  • Managed a project with five superannuation funds, co-designing and evaluating the effectiveness of several disclosure options through a framed field experiment completed by thousands of superannuation fund members
  • Led a project with a financial institution, co-designing a policy intervention to reduce credit card debt and testing its effectiveness through a randomised controlled trial
  • Transformed a high-level government decision into a parliamentary bill by leading a thorough stakeholder consultation process; involving roundtables and individual consultations with the superannuation industry, not-for-profit organisations and academics
  • Managed the secretariat for an Australian-State working group reporting to the Council of Australian Governments, co-designing minimum benchmarks implemented as part of disability policy reform
  • Contributed to several Australian Government budgets, working across government to determine measures in social services and health portfolios.

Outside of Nous

Prior to joining Nous, Michael worked in the Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. He also has experience in the Australian Department of Treasury in budget, financial services policy and social policy.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts (political science) and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne. He is an admitted lawyer in the Supreme Court of Victoria and has nearly completed a Master of Public Policy at the Australian National University.

In his spare time...

Michael and his partner love spending time with their two dogs, a Borzoi and a Blue Heeler. Michael is also a proud member of the Geelong Football Club and Mont Albert Cricket Club.
