Michael specialises in strategy, design and innovation consulting and has broad experience across multiple sectors and jurisdictions. He is sought after for his ability to blend structured analysis, commercial acumen, stakeholder facilitation and cutting edge design and innovation thinking to solve complex problems at the system, service and product design levels. Influential work

  • Managed a project for a Victorian utilities company to identify medium-term growth opportunities through business model innovation that were signed off by the board
  • Led a stream to review the customer service network of a leading multi-campus and online university to improve customer experience and deliver 15% efficiency, and supported the implementation of the network in an agile environment
  • Managed the organisational review of a leading New South Wales business school to deliver a new structure and achieve 25% operating efficiency
  • Program-managed the business transformation of a top-10 ranked Australian university to develop a 10-year strategy, implementation plan and transformation blueprint to deliver $42M in annual profit growth
  • Managed the review of governance arrangements for a national bank with recommendations currently being implemented by the chief executive officer.

Outside of Nous

Michael has had a diverse and eclectic career that spans legal practice, not‑for‑profit (NFP) leadership and entrepreneurship. Prior to and while working at Nous, Michael founded and ran an educational services business for 15 years; practised planning and environment law for a commercial firm; led international development projects for a NFP organisation and later became its first innovation manager.

Michael holds Bachelors of Laws (Honours) and Engineering (Honours) from and is currently undertaking a Master of Business Administration at The University of Melbourne, is admitted to practice law at Supreme Court of Victoria, and is a certified Service Design and Agile practitioner.

In his spare time...

Michael loves snowboarding, the great outdoors and music festivals. He is an avid reader, often four books at the same time. He also plays basketball for two teams despite being vertically challenged.
