Michael is a consultant and mathematician with experience as an undergraduate analyst, research assistant and tutor in mathematics and economics. His skills and experience in statistical modelling complement a strong fundamental understanding of what drives organisational strategy. His work has spanned all the way from the Australian swimming team to one of Australia’s largest aged care providers. He is passionate about understanding longitudinal trends in public health outcomes and how these inform policy decisions.

Influential work

  • Developed predictive statistical models for the Australian Olympic swimming team to assist with team selection and ordering decisions
  • Constructed pricing model recommendations and analysis for a large Australian aged care company to expand and modernise its facilities
  • Created a data warehouse framework for a major Australian chain of farms to consolidate its previously disparate data into a centrally accessible platform
  • Designed a R&D tax calculator in response to July 2018 policy changes to inform clients on optimal capital allocation and planning
  • Analysed federal budget documents in a research team to be presented at a major event on transport policy.

Outside of Nous

Prior to joining Nous, Michael has worked at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical Frontiers (ACEMS), a professional services firm and an Australian health start-up. His work has primarily involved recommendations in data heavy contexts, using various statistical tools and techniques to address business and other problems. Further, he has tutored students and run workshops as a STEM Ambassador at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Michael was as a community consultant for QUT Big Lift, working towards Indigenous reconciliation; and a philanthropy coordinator for the science and engineering alumni of the Dean’s Scholars at QUT. He has also performed stand-up comedy in Australia and the UK.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Business (finance) and a Bachelor of Mathematics (statistics), from Queensland University of Technology.

In his spare time...

Michael enjoys playing football and boardgames, stand-up comedy and reading. He also enjoys exploring beaches and nature reserves.
