Richard is a principal consultant at Nous Group and national leader of Nous’ health and ageing work. He partners with organisations across Australia to engage with the challenges and opportunities of a changing health and aged care system in the areas of business and digital strategy, organisational performance, policy and evaluation. Richard has been involved in the health and aged care industry more than 20 years in executive management, board director, clinical and consultancy roles. He is highly regarded for his rigorous analytical approach and engaging consulting style.

Influential work

  • Collaborated with board, executive and senior clinical staff to define a new strategic direction for a major specialist public hospital to guide its development as a leader in cancer care, research and education
  • Designed a new Victorian health workforce development strategy for the Department of Health and Human Services
  • Designed a transition support model to equip a government department for state-wide implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme
  • Worked with state and Commonwealth stakeholders to review the national health performance frameworks
  • Facilitated collaborative service design workshops with health professionals and service providers to design a new pilot model of integrated chronic disease management.

Outside of Nous

Richard previously held a range of strategic and operational roles in public, private and not-for-profit healthcare organisations. Prior to joining Nous he was the executive director of Mercy Health, South Western Health Services; where he was responsible for the delivery of hospital services to one of Australia’s fastest growing urban communities. He has a previous clinical background as a physiotherapist, practising in Australia and the UK.

Richard holds a Master of Health Service Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma of Health Service Management from La Trobe University, and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) from The University of Melbourne. He is a fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management, a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Lean Six Sigma ‘black belt’ and a PRINCE2 Project Management Practitioner.

In his spare time...

Richard spends spare time with his three children, rediscovering his love of Lego, Auskick and Milo Cricket. He also runs along Melbourne’s Beach Road and entertains with his golf swing.
