Rowan’s structured and methodical thinking fosters timely resolution of complex client problems in the public, private and not-for -profit sectors. He has managed Nous consulting projects that have enabled execution of strategic intent, delivered performance improvements and supported achievements of public policy objectives. Rowan brings deep experience in the resources sector and engaging with Indigenous stakeholders. His sensitivity to diverse stakeholder interests facilitates pragmatic and implementable decisions.

Influential work

  • Conducted the five-year implementation review of Rio Tinto’s Regional Framework Deed and accompanying land access agreements with five native title groups in the Pilbara to drive improved agreement outcomes
  • Partnered with the executive of a Western Australia (WA) university in the design and implementation of a new operating model to foster student experience and financial performance improvements
  • Was the stream leader for the review of the Department of Health’s funding of the Aboriginal community controlled health sector peak bodies in South Australia and WA
  • Facilitated the capability development of public sector managers and graduates through the delivery of multiple workshop modules on behalf of the WA Public Sector Commission
  • Facilitated strategic planning and organisational design for prominent Aboriginal corporations in the Pilbara.

Outside of Nous

Prior to Nous Rowan was a lawyer of six years’ practising experience; including in the areas of native title, Aboriginal heritage, mining, banking and finance, review of administrative decisions, litigation, alternative dispute resolution and corporate advice.

He holds Bachelors of Laws and of Arts (Philosophy) from Murdoch University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Chinese Law from Murdoch University in partnership with Zhengzhou University, China.

Rowan is the director of the Fremantle Windfarm Cooperative Ltd and former director of the Wilderness Society Australia Incorporated and the Wilderness Society WA Inc.

In his spare time...

Rowan loves everything wilderness and can be seen walking, cycling, paddling and sleeping in it. He volunteers for human rights and conservation not-for-profit organisations.
