Stephen brings deep experience in senior management roles in the health and aged care sectors and led one of Australia’s largest aged care providers. He has led major projects – including significant change programs – in strategy, policy, and performance improvement at a national, state and local level. Stephen develops strategies for and simplifies the structures and processes of diverse organisations, simultaneously promoting organisational mission and commercial success. He is also a chartered accountant with a deep understanding of financial and risk management strategy development and implementation.

Influential work

  • Led one of Australia’s largest aged care providers with 9,500 staff and volunteers and $550 million revenue, including leading a major governance and management simplification of the aged care division
  • Led the development and implementation of a strategy targeting services for people with modest financial means, with a special commitment to Aboriginal people; culturally and linguistically diverse communities; older members of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities; and older homeless people
  • Introduced the US’ ‘household model’, whereby residents live normal lives and have a genuine say in how they live and receive care, to residential aged care at one of Australia’s largest aged care providers
  • Led the national review of wellness and re-enablement approaches in the home care sector
  • Facilitated a governance and senior management review for a faith-based organisation of more than 10,000 people.

Outside of Nous

Stephen previously led one of Australia’s largest aged care providers; covering residential aged care, home and community care, and retirement living. He is a chartered accountant; and has served in voluntary governance leadership roles for a women’s refuge, religious private secondary schools, a national faith-based education network and a small aged care provider.

In his spare time...

Three grandsons under five-years-old are sources of great joy and activity for Stephen, who also enjoys active parish community involvement.
