Tara has an extensive background in public policy and research, with expertise in environmental management. She has worked in academic research, non-government organisation (NGO) program coordination, and federal policy implementation in the areas of climate change, sustainable resource development and conservation planning. She also has expertise in higher education research and teaching, with work experience at six universities across Australia, Canada, and the UK. Tara's diverse background and strong quantitative skills enable her to deliver creative and robust solutions.

Influential work

  • Conducting an evaluation of bushfire recovery management that will inform recovery policy reforms
  • Conducting an evaluation of the role of local government in preventing violence against women
  • Led collaborative project focused on cost-effective solutions for long-term land management of a federally-listed ecosystem in central Victoria
  • Led strategic planning for a bilateral resource development forum, which brought together federal departments to identify best-practice opportunities for sustainable development in a remote region
  • Led a comprehensive gap analysis of environmental programs specific to a federal government mandate, with collaboration from government departments, NGOs, Indigenous organisations and academia.

Outside of Nous

Prior to joining Nous, Tara worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Monash University’s School of Biological Sciences, as a policy analyst at the Government of Canada’s Canadian Polar Commission and as a program manager at the Zoological Society of London.

Tara holds a PhD in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in environmental science from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada; as well as a Master of Science (biodiversity, conservation and management) from The University of Oxford.

In her spare time...

Tara is an avid musician and currently sings with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus. She also enjoys time outdoors and getting to know Australia’s diverse landscapes.
